The best-selling 8-bit home computer, the Commodore 64, developed by Commodore in 1982, is a nostalgic device for many computer enthusiasts. However, the name Commodore 64 is too long for most people, which is why many call it the C64 or, due to its shape, “Brotkasten”. The C64 was sold more than 20 million times.
The C64 is one of the oldest home computers and is one of the first to have a sound chip, which in the C64 is the MOS 6581 from SID technology.
The C64 has a MOS 6510 processor with a clock frequency of 1MHz.
It has 64 KiB of RAM and 20 KiB of ROM.
For the graphics, the C64 has a graphics chip from MOS technology, the MOS 6569/8565.
The addition of the sound chip was expensive, which is why the C64 was initially priced at 1,495 D-Marks, but this price fell to 899 D-Marks the following year and in 1984 it was already 548 D-Marks.
